    I am writing this letter to make a complaint about a member of your staff and to bring a recent incident to your attention.

    I visited your Saffron Walden branch on Tuesday 15th March at approximately 4.15pm to purchase a light bulb.

    On entering the store, I was almost immediately verbally abused by a member of staff called Caroline Clements. Her offensive comments towards me were very loud and heard by other customers and staff alike. My response to her nasty and demeaning comments was to inform her that if she ever calls me a ‘slag’ or ‘trash’ again then I would report her to the police. As I said this, she approached me with aggression and told me to call the f**king police. She came right up to my face in a confrontational way and told me she was going to punch me in the face.

    I was obviously very shocked by her outburst and another member of staff had to run and intervene before I was physically assaulted by her. I tried to disregard what had just happened and walk away to continue my shopping but I was stopped by another member of staff (a tall male with blond hair) who told me to sort my problems out outside. To which I replied that I had only attended the store to do my shopping and that the verbal abuse I’d received was completely unprovoked. He said that Caroline would not say these things without good reason, meanwhile Caroline continued her torrent of abuse towards me. His comment completely dumbfounded me!

    I am absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated by said staff members in my local store. To be disrespectfully and racially abused by members of your staff is not only a criminal offence, but extremely unprofessional. Do you not have a duty of care towards your customers?

    I exited the store immediately after the confrontation and called the police to report the incident.

    Caroline is making false allegations. She is telling everyone that I owe her £10,000 from the beauty business that she used to be sole trader in at a premise with me. Uttlesford Council refused to pay her the Business Support Grant whilst the business was closed because of the lockdown due to her name not being on the business account. Caroline was not trading any business; she was training under my supervision. I was the only person who was trading and only my name was on the business rate account. This dispute concluded and we both received letters from the council informing her that she wasn’t entitled to the financial support she thought she was. However, she was paid £4000 for the second lockdown when she was furloughed from Homebase. I have got the documents to prove everything.

    Whatever has happened between us in the past does not give her the right to threaten me with verbal and physical abuse. I visited your store as a perfectly innocent customer and did not deserve to be treated in such a despicable way.

    My incident reference number which was given to me by the police is as follows: 42/66268/22. I would like you to check your CCTV footage and keep a copy to enable the police to do further investigation.

    I look forward to a response, and am sure once you view the CCTV footage you will see for yourself Caroline’s aggressive behaviour towards me.
